In a proactive response to the pressing healthcare challenges facing the North East Region, the Mamprugu Zaabuni Youth for Development has raised significant concerns regarding the alarming shortage of doctors and pharmacists, particularly highlighting the critical situation at the Walewale Government Hospital.
The Walewale Government Hospital currently serves as the North East Regional Hospital with only one doctor and pharmacist.
This absence of the required number of health personnel is severely impacting the effectiveness of the healthcare system, leaving many residents without access to essential pharmaceutical care. TheaAssociation has expressed deep worry that the deficiency of trained pharmacists is not only hindering healthcare delivery but also jeopardizing the well-being of residents.
They noted that qualified professionals in the field are reluctant to relocate to the region, citing various challenges that discourage them from offering their services. In light of these issues, the Mamprugu Zaabuni Youth for Development has taken a commendable step by launching an education endowment fund. This initiative aims to support aspiring students from the Mamprugu Kingdom who are interested in pursuing studies in the sciences.
By investing in the education of local youth, the association hopes to cultivate a new generation of healthcare professionals who will return to their roots and contribute to improving healthcare services in their home region.
As part of this initiative, the association has successfully supported four students who have gained admission to study pharmacy at various tertiary institutions across Ghana by covering their admission fees.
This vital support not only alleviates the financial burden on families but also encourages young individuals to pursue careers in pharmacy, ICT and engineering thereby addressing the critical shortage of pharmacists in the area.
The endowment fund represents not only a commitment to education but also a strategic approach to address the healthcare deficit by empowering local talent.
Through this initiative, the Mamprugu Zaabuni Youth for Development is determined to foster self-sufficiency in healthcare and inspire young individuals to take part in the upliftment of their community.
