The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Ocloo, has assured that disputes surrounding Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominations across the region will be resolved in the coming weeks.

Addressing the media at a press briefing in Accra on May 2, the Minister acknowledged the tensions in some municipal assemblies stemming from disagreements over nominated MCEs.

She expressed confidence that ongoing government interventions would lead to lasting solutions and restore harmony at the local government level.

Her assurance comes as two key municipalities Krowor and Ayawaso East successfully confirmed their MCE nominees through peaceful voting processes, signaling progress in easing some of the region’s political tensions.

In the Krowor Municipality, Engineer Paul Afotey Quaye was unanimously endorsed as the new MCE. All 17 eligible assembly members, including six government appointees and eleven elected representatives voted in favour of his nomination. One assembly member was reported deceased.

Eng. Afotey Quaye expressed gratitude for the strong backing and pledged to focus on addressing the developmental needs of the municipality. “This show of support motivates me to serve with commitment and ensure we tackle our major challenges head-on,” he stated.

Meanwhile, in the Ayawaso East Municipality, Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim secured confirmation after 16 out of 17 assembly members voted in his favour, with one voting against.

Speaking after the confirmation, Mr. Ibrahim emphasized his commitment to peace and inclusive development.

He stated there will be emergency meeting oN Monday to discuss the way forward on the challenges within the municipality.

The confirmations in Krowor and Ayawaso East represent positive steps as government continues efforts to resolve similar disputes in other assemblies within the Greater Accra Region.
