A first-half strike by Emmanuel Mensah was enough to give the Black Satellites a 1-0 win over defending champions Senegal in the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

It was a crucial Group C encounter with the two teams having come from  respective 1-1 draws in their opening games.

Ghana had to cancel a DR Congo leadto earn a point while Senegal were held by Central African Republic.

Therefore, Monday’s match was seen as a decider for the group.

However, prior to the tie, DR Congo took a commanding lead of the group with a 3-1 win over CAR.

Therefore, the win by Desmond Ofei’s side puts them at par with the Congolese and in pole position to make it to the quarter finals.

They now have four points, same as DR Congo with Senegal and CAR on one point each.

The Satellites’ next game will be against the Central Africans on Thursday, May 8 with Senegal concurrently taking on the Congolese in Suez.
