Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson has commended assembly members in the region for putting development ahead of their personal interests during the confirmation of the MMDCE nominees which have seen all 14 confirmed.

Out of the 14, only two were females. The seven-day confirmation exercise in the Western Region has seen all the Municipal and Metropolitan District Assemblies (MMDAs) confirm their nominees with each nominee exceeding the 90 percent approval mark.

The exercise, which began in the Wassa East District and concluded at Jomoro, also included the election of some Presiding Members.

Notably, out of the 14 nominations for the, there were only two females – Priscilla Yorke (Amenfi West) and Sophia Aubynn (Mpohor) representing a mere 14.29 percent

In their inaugural speeches, several of the newly confirmed MMDCEs committed to improving infrastructure and enhancing education while vowing to work closely with their local communities to tackle challenges and capitalize on available opportunities.

Some confirmed MMDCEs outlined their development priorities:

Prestea Huni Valley
Dr. Matthew Ayee, Municipal Chief Executive, emphasized improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, local economic development, security, and environmental sustainability.

Shama
Paul Otis Dentu, Municipal Chief Executive, pledged collaborative efforts to achieve the community’s development aspirations.

Ellembelle
Joseph Agyekum, District Chief Executive, envisioned collaboration to tackle challenges and seize opportunities.

Effia Kwesimintsim
Abdul Majeed Dorkulugu, Municipal Chief Executive, called for collective action among staff, security services, traditional leaders, and stakeholders to drive development.

Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson commended the assembly members for putting aside their differences to focus on development.

“The exercise has been highly successful. I commend assembly members for their support and cooperation in electing Presiding Members and confirming nominees. Their ability to put aside differences and prioritize development is truly commendable,” he said.

The Jomoro assembly was shrouded in grief with the assembly members in black attire during the confirmation of the President’s nominee.

The somber mood was in mourning of two assembly members Francis Armoh (Alaboale Electoral Area) and Ransford Nana Otuo Darko (Elubo West Electoral Area), who tragically died in a motor accident just days before the event. Member of Parliament Dorcas Affo-Toffey represents the constituency.

“Today marks not just the election of a leader, but a renewed commitment to progress. Let’s unite with a shared vision, working together in hope for a brighter future in Jomoro. Together, we can make it even brighter.” She added.
