The Kasoa Ofaakor Jei River Police have apprehended two individuals suspected of stealing iron rods intended for the construction of a hospital as part of the Agenda 111 project, a flagship government initiative aimed at improving health infrastructure in the country.
According to eyewitnesses, three suspects arrived at the scene in a tricycle and were intercepted by by the residents halfway whilst attempted to boot with the loaded iron rods on a tricycle.
Reports indicate the iron rods were stolen from the construction site at Jei River, a suburb of Kasoa in the Central region.
A security officer stationed at the Kasoa Odupong Senior High School played a crucial role to aid the arrest of two victims. His vigilance and timely intervention helped the police apprehend the two suspects.
However, one of the three suspects is currently on the run, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
Upon their arrest, 31 pieces of 18-millimetre iron rods were found in a tricycle they were using to cart the stolen items. During interrogation, they allegedly admitted to the crime, explaining that it was their second time stealing iron rods from the site.
“When we got to the police station, there was only one officer around who told us he will call his colleagues from home to come and assist. But we feared the thieves will escape so devised a plan on our own. We told the owner of the tricycle they were using to convey the rods to pretend the tricycle was faulty when he sees us so we can pretend to assist them push and arrest the suspects.
“But when I grabbed one of them whilst we were pushing the tricycle, he escaped and we arrested only one together with the tricycle rider,” narrated the eyewitness.
Meanwhile the Municipal Chief Executive of the Awutu Senya East Assembly, Seth Sabah Serwornoo-Banini, cautioned the youth to desist from such acts in order not to tarnish the reputation of the vicinity.

He stressed on the need to maintain the peace and security in the area, reiterating his dedication towards working to create more job opportunities for the youth.
