Nana Ama Owusu, the mother of Alfred Ababio Kumi, a.k.a. ‘Adenta’ Kumi, has alleged that the arrest of her son by operatives of National Security has led to Kumi’s wife getting a miscarriage.
According to the woman, who was speaking on Accra-based Adom FM on Friday morning, her daughter-in-law was four months pregnant prior to her husband’s arrest but has lost the pregnancy as a result of shock.
She explained that National Security operatives were forcing their way into the house when they couldn’t open the gate. The pregnant lady, who was trying to open the gate for the security officers, got shocked and took to her heels when the officers hit the gate with the butt of their guns to break into the house.
Madam Owusu further narrated that her daughter-in-law fell down while running and started bleeding, losing the four-month-old pregnancy.
She said the lady has currently been taken to a hospital in Adenta for medical care.
“There was no gunshot, but they used the butt of the gun. The man told him to use the butt of the gun to break the door. The pregnant wife fell down and started bleeding. She’s four months pregnant. She was going to open the gate but couldn’t. So, when they hit the gate with the gun, she ran and fell down. She’s currently at a hospital in Adenta,” she narrated in Twi.
Adenta Kumi was picked up by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and National Security at his residence on Friday morning, May 23, 2025.
The arrest was confirmed to OnuaOnline by Kumi’s lawyers. Ababio, a staunch member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama demanding investigations into allegations that judges handling the suspended Chief Justice removal probe had a meeting with a lawyer for one of the petitioners.
He has asked the President to investigate the allegations, where CCTV footage of the said meeting at a particular Chinese restaurant has emerged.
Meanwhile, the lawyer in question, Thaddeus Sory, has denied that any such meeting took place.
NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, in a Facebook post on Friday morning, called on members of the party to “rush to Adenta Kumi’s house” following the security agencies’ presence at his residence for his pickup.
