The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has called for an end to the atrocities in Gaza in his 2025 Eid-Al-Adha message, delivered on his behalf ahead of the celebration.

In a strong global appeal, Dr. Sharubutu condemned what he described as “genocidal impunity and moral bankruptcy,” particularly in Gaza, urging world leaders to uphold justice, peace, and human dignity.

Ghana’s National Chief Imam described the situation in Gaza as an act of barbarism, calling for a global order founded on justice and compassion.

“We cannot surrender our God-given humanity to modern-day barbarity in the name of supremacy,” he cautioned.

“Let the global order reflect RIGHT over might, UNITY over disunity, FORGIVENESS over vindictiveness, RECONCILIATION over aggression, and PEACE over violence,” he said in the message conveyed through his Personal Assistant, Dr Abubakari Mohammed Marzuq Azindoo, underscoring the need for practical action rooted in faith and shared human values to tackle today’s moral and humanitarian challenges.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Sharubutu also admonished both Ghanaians and the international community to embrace interfaith harmony, sacrifice, and moral renewal.

He averred that the festival of Eid-Al-Adha is more than just the ritual of sacrifice, but a call to divine devotion and societal transformation geared toward global peace.

Referencing Qur’an Chapter 22, verse 37, the Chief Imam said “Eid-Al-Adha is a festivity of sacrifice and an opportunity to reaffirm our faith in Allah,” he said, noting that “Allah is not interested in the flesh and blood of the animals sacrificed… but in our commitment to piety.”

The Sheik cautioned that the virtues of the celebration will be fruitless if they do not lead to attitudinal cleansing and moral growth, urging the Muslim community to reflect on the essence of the occasion to inspire a transformation “from negativity to positivity in the supreme interest of our society.”

He said Prophet Abraham’s obedience, which is the heart of Eid-Al-Adha, should unite all Abrahamic faiths in mutual respect to enhance interfaith unity.

“This is the point of convergence of all the Abrahamic religions,” he said, calling on Christians, Jews, and Muslims to see the festival as an opportunity to renew their commitment to peaceful coexistence.
