In celebration of Father’s Day, Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi, a subsidiary of Media General, in partnership with their partners, hosted a vibrant community health event on Sunday , June 15, 2025, at Asokwa.

The event combined free health screenings, vegan food sampling, health talks, massages, to promote wellness and preventive care among men and families.

The attracted residents, health-conscious individuals, and wellness advocates. Participants enjoyed a range of services including prostrate screening, blood sugar checks, haemoglobin testing, uric acid screening, and others offered by health professionals and volunteers.

The Head of Station, Akoma FM, Ransford Nana Osei, said the initiative was part of the station’s ongoing mission to introduce preventive and regenerative health to Ghanaians.

“We are here to improve on the health conditions of our listeners. The day was celebrated to honour fathers,celebrate fatherhood and acknowledge the influential role of fathers in society.

“It gives us opportunity to pay tribute to the fathers,stepfathers ,grandfathers and father figures who lift us up on their shoulders so that we can reach our full potential,” he stated.

The Chief of Asokwa, Nana Fi Baamoah II, said Father’s Day gives the opportunity to honour the men who help shape our character through their love, guidance and devotion.

He pointed out that, dads and father-figures across the world sacrifice to support their families and to ensure that their children can lead fulfilling lives.

“The day is observed variedly to acknowledge and recognise the important place fathers and men figures occupy in the upbringing of children,” he said.

The Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive, Amo Karmel, called on fathers to continue to show love and also be caring fathers.

He described the day as a wonderful occasion to make ‘our” fathers happy and make them feel that they brought up thankful offspring.

He said the fathers role in the family is divine. “1 Timothy 5:8 reminds us that it is the role of the father to to provide for the family. As fathers, it is our responsibility to make sure that our family needs are addressed across board. As we celebrate the day annually, let it be known to fathers that they are role models for their children,” he said.

Awards were given to deserving personalities including Asokwahene, Nana Fi Baamoah II, Nana Baffour Osei Twafuo Yaw (Abrepokumaahene). Others include Ashanti Regional Prison Commander, DDP James Nmwigelle, Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Peter Tetteh, Ashanti Regional CEPS Commander, Evans Agbozo and the sponsors.

Some musicians and comedians were there to entertain the participants at the event which was well attended.
