A 10-year-old boy is receiving medical treatment at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital after reportedly being severely assaulted by his father at Diabene, a suburb of Sekondi in the Western Region.
The father, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, is alleged to have whipped the boy repeatedly on his back, abdomen, and other parts of his body, leaving him with deep bruises and bleeding wounds.
According to preliminary reports, the assault was triggered after the child allegedly misplaced a key.
The father is said to have accused the boy of being stubborn and unrepentant.
Albert Yalley, Assembly Member for the Diabene Electoral Area, confirmed the incident.
He stated that upon receiving information about the abuse, he quickly intervened and directed that the child be taken to the hospital.
The matter was also reported to the police, resulting in the father’s arrest.
The suspect is currently in police custody at the Sekondi Police Station as investigations continue.
This is the second child assault being reported in the region after a young boy was hanged on a rope, whipped and got ginger smeared in his bruises afterwards.
