The 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has appealed to party members to put an end to internal wrangling and public attacks as the party prepares for the crucial January 31 flagbearer election.
Speaking at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on July 19, Dr Bawumia said unity must take precedence over personal grievances.
“I want to use this occasion to appeal to all party faithful: let us stop the internal attacks now,” Dr Bawumia urged.
“The NDC is our opponent, not ourselves. We cannot go into this election divided and expect to win,”he stressed.
Dr Bawumia stressed that disunity only serves to weaken the party’s electoral chances, adding that internal criticism must be constructive and channeled through the appropriate platforms.
He emphasised that the NPP must project an image of discipline, maturity, and solidarity if it hopes to convince Ghanaians to retain the party in power.
“We have a lot to be proud of as a party, but we must guard against actions that undermine our collective strength,” he said.
“Together, we can win the 2028 general election. But first, we must be united,” Dr Bawumia noted.
His comments come amid concerns over recent public spats between key party figures and grassroots discontent in some constituencies.
Touching on the violence that erupted during the rerun of the parliamentary election in Ablekuma North, Dr Bawumia stated that a new government under his administration will prosecute the perpetrators of violence during the Ablekuma North parliamentary election rerun on July 11.
“I wish to call on the President to prosecute the perpetrators of the violence in Ablekuma North. If they fail to do so, we shall prosecute them when we assume power in 2029, because the elephant does not forget.”
