His Royal Majesty, the Nayiri-Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, the king of the Mamprugu Kingdom has released a statement expressing his profound sorrow and calling for national unity in the wake of the tragedy.

“With profound sorrow and a heavy heart, I join the rest of Ghana in mourning the tragic loss of eight distinguished compatriots who perished in yesterday’s devastating helicopter crash,” the King stated.

Among the deceased were notable royal sons, a loss deeply felt by the traditional leadership of Ghana. The Nayiri extended his condolences to the Ya-Na, King of Dagbon, the Yagbonwura, King of Gonjaland, and all revered chiefs, acknowledging the “irreparable loss” suffered by their kingdoms. He emphasized that their deaths were “not just a tragedy for the royalty, but a national loss,” highlighting their active service to Ghana.

The King’s statement underscored the theme of national service and sacrifice, framing the deceased as patriots who dedicated their lives to the development of Ghana. “They fell in active service to Ghana, a sacrifice that shall not be forgotten,” he declared, emphasizing the lasting impact of their contributions. Their memory will serve “as a beacon of patriotism and leadership” for future generations, he added.

In this time of national grief, the Nayiri called for unity, reflection, and solidarity among Ghanaians. “In this time of national mourning, let us come together in prayer, reflection, and solidarity” he urged. He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, expressing hope that they may “find strength in the unity of a nation that mourns with you.”

The helicopter crash has prompted questions about aviation safety standards in Ghana, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the incident. While the focus remains on mourning the loss of these eight statesmen, the incident has sparked a broader conversation about the need for improved infrastructure and safety measures to prevent future tragedies.

As Ghana mourns, the Nayiri’s words serve as a reminder of the importance of national unity and the enduring legacy of those who served their country with dedication and honor. “Let us uphold the values for which these patriots stood and recommit ourselves to the service of country and people,” he concluded.
