The Nana Hima Dekyi Hospital in Dixcove, located in the Western Region, has recently benefited from a much-needed infrastructural boost, thanks to the efforts of traditional leaders from the Lower Dixcove Traditional Area.

Originally constructed in 1972 by the late Chief Nana Hima Dekyi I and transferred to the Ghana Health Service in 1985, the hospital remains a key healthcare provider for the Dixcove community.

However, the facility has long struggled with inadequate resources, which has impacted the quality of healthcare delivery.

In response, the chiefs and elders of Lower Dixcove, led by the Asokuahene, Nana Gozie III, took the opportunity during the 2025 Lower Dixcove Kundum Festival to donate essential medical equipment and supplies to the hospital.

The contribution included hospital beds, wheelchairs, and various medical materials aimed at enhancing healthcare services in the community.

Nana Gozie III highlighted that festivals like Kundum go beyond cultural celebrations. They also serve as platforms to improve the well-being of the people.

He urged the hospital to foster a culture of maintenance to ensure the longevity of the donated equipment.

Nana Afiba Kwaaba I, adding her perspective, stated that her primary focus remains education in Ahanta West.

She mentioned that her office sponsored a quiz competition during the festival to empower students with knowledge and confidence.

She believes that education is instrumental for the youth of Ahanta West to achieve their ambitions of becoming professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and pilots.

She also encouraged young people to develop practical skills that will enable them to contribute effectively to the community’s progress.

Hospital officials welcomed the donation, describing it as timely and a significant relief, and noted that it aligns well with the festival’s broader objectives of promoting development through health and education.
