The Agona Nkwanta–Dixcove road, a critical route that links communities to the only referral health facility in the Ahanta West municipality, the Nana Hima Dekyi Hospital, continues to remain in a deplorable condition.

The hospital does not only serve the people of Ahanta West but also provides care for patients from Nsuaem, Tarkwa, and surrounding towns.

For years, successive governments have made promises to construct the 12-kilometre stretch, but none have been fulfilled. This has prompted the Omanhene of Lower Dixcove, Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX, who also serves as the Regional Vice President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, to issue a stern warning.

Speaking at the 2025 Kundum Festival durbar, he warned that, if the road is not constructed by the end of the year, both Nananom and residents of the Lower Dixcove Traditional Council will embark on a strike.

He was emphatic that during the protest, no vehicles will be allowed to move, and residents will resort to transporting themselves by sea to Agona Nkwanta.

Nana Agyemang further urged the government to act with urgency, noting that traders and travelers continue to suffer daily because of the deplorable state of the road.

Responding to the chief’s concerns, the Municipal Chief Executive of Ahanta West, Ing. Kofi Aidoo, assured that government has prioritized the Dixcove road and will construct it as part of the 10,000-kilometre road projects to be undertaken across the country.

Meanwhile, some residents lament about how successive governments have failed to fix the road over the years. They have, however, expressed hope that this time, the promise made by the MCE will be fulfilled.
