National High Jump record holder Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah has qualified to the finals of the Women’s High Jump at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Competing in Group B, the 24-year-old cleared the 1.92m qualification mark to join the elites for the final on Sunday, September 21.
Ranked 29th in the world, Rose will have to bring out her best in order to make it to the medal podium.
“It feels so good,” she told journalists after becoming one of the 16 for Sunday’s final.
“Qualifying for this stage is a huge achievement,” she added on Thursday.
“I’m proud of myself, proud of my coach, proud of my supporters as well. All I wanted was to qualify for the final and take it from there.”
Rose’s Season Best (SB) has been 1.93m though she jumped 1.97m to break the long-standing national record (NR).
Favourites to win the event are Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers, whose personal bests (PBs) are 2.10m and 2.04 respectively.
For Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah, she has become the first Ghanaian in two decades to make it to the final of a World Athletics Championship.
