The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, paid a visit to the Bogoso-Prestea Gold Mine in the Western Region on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, to assess the progress of the mine’s restoration and revitalization.
The visit was a strong signal of the government’s commitment to ensuring sustainable and responsible mining practices.
The minister was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Mr. Isaac Andrews Tandoh, Acting CEO of the Minerals Commission, and Mr. Richard Kofi Adjei, Chief Inspector of Mines.
The visit highlighted the government’s collaborative approach with regulatory bodies to ensure that mining operations adhere to national and environmental standards.
During the tour, the delegation inspected the processing plant where raw ore is transformed into gold concentrate.
Buah met with employees of Heath Goldfields and commended the company for its significant progress in reviving the historic site. He praised the firm’s investment and operational achievements, emphasizing the pivotal role of sustainable mining in Ghana’s economic growth.
The Managing Director of Heath Goldfields, Mr. Patrick Appiah Mensah, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to safety and sustainability. He noted that since January 2025, safety has been the company’s top priority, leading to the rebuilding of critical infrastructure and the stabilization of underground workings. Mr. Mensah also highlighted ongoing efforts in community recruitment and training, stating that the Bogoso-Prestea Mine remains integral to the local community’s future.
The Minister and the Minerals Commission officials expressed optimism about the mine’s future contributions to both regional and national development.
The visit served as a powerful reminder of how responsible mining, when guided by strong compliance and oversight, can be a catalyst for socio-economic progress and community well-being.
