Some youth at Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa North municipality of the Eastern region have set portions of the community’s police station ablaze after a violent protest.
The protest was sparked by a suspect who was arrested by the police for possessing marijuana who died in custody.
According to eyewitnesses, the agitated youth besieged the station demanding answers over the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.
The protest quickly escalated, resulting in portions of the station being torched.
A reinforcement team from the Eastern Regional Police Command was deployed to the area and managed to restore order.
Meanwhile, no casualties have been reported so far.
