The Management of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) has successfully resolved a dispute with the Sunyani Traditional Council over an ongoing construction project on its premises.

The resolution came after a formal meeting was held between NEDCO officials and the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen KorKor II, and the Council of Elders (Nananom). This meeting was necessitated after the Omanhene ordered an immediate halt to the construction, following concerns raised by residents about the project.

During the meeting, the NEDCO authorities offered a formal and unreserved apology to the Paramount Chief and Nananom for commencing the project without first consulting the traditional leaders and following the proper protocols.

In their address, the NEDCO team emphasized their commitment to the development of Sunyani.

“The progress and development of Sunyani are of utmost importance to us, and we are fully prepared to contribute to it. We would never intentionally undertake any action that goes against the betterment of the Sunyani community,” a representative stated.

The company provided a technical justification for the project’s design, explaining that their decision to construct a low-rise building was due to the presence of major underground cables directly beneath the site. They clarified that these critical cables would not support the foundation and weight of a multi-storey structure.

After hearing NEDCO’s apology and explanation, the Omanhene and the Sunyani Traditional Council deliberated and accepted the company’s position. Consequently, the Council has granted NEDCO the green light to resume and continue with the construction work.
