Flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today, Friday, October 10, 2025, ballot for their positions on the ballot paper ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The National Elections Committee is expected to oversee the exercise after a meeting with the five aspirants or their representatives at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, on Thursday, October 9, 2025, said the balloting would be held for all aspirants who have fulfilled the party’s requirements.

“All candidates who have met the guidelines, as issued on July 29, and complied with them, will be balloting today. Nobody is going to be excused from any specific guideline of the party,” Mr. Mohammed stated.

The exercise is being done in accordance with the party’s constitution and must be respected by all contestants.

The NPP on Wednesday, October 8 cleared all five flagbearer aspirants to contest in the party’s upcoming race.

It follows our interception of correspondence from the elections committee of the party to all contenders signifying no disqualification and inviting all five contenders to take part in the balloting for positions on the ballot paper this Friday.

“I bring you warm greetings from the Presidential Elections Committee and congratulate you on a successful vetting outcome. The Chairman of the Committee has directed me to extend an invitation for your participation in a balloting process to determine your positions on the ballot paper for the upcoming January 31st Presidential primary,” parts of the letter read.

The party is expected to make an official announcement later today.

The clearance follows Tuesday’s meeting of the National Council in Accra, which reviewed the report of the Presidential Vetting Committee chaired by former Defence Minister, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor.

Those cleared include Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

Per the party’s timetable, the notice of poll will be published next week Friday, ahead of the national congress scheduled for January 31 next year, with a possible run-off on February 14.
