The five flagbearer aspirants of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have made a collective pledge for a peaceful and issue-based campaign ahead of the party’s upcoming presidential primary in January 2026.
The pledge was made at the Nima residence of the former President, William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, when he organised a breakfast meeting with them on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
A press statement issued from the office of the former President Tuesday, October 21, indicated that the meeting was meant to foster camaraderie ahead of the internal poll.
The gathering was attended by the party’s top brass, including the Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang; the Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey; the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong; the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin; and the Former Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.
The five presidential aspirants present were Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; Dr. Bryan Acheampong; Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
In his remarks, the former President expressed his “profound gratitude to the aspirants for taking time out of their busy campaign schedules to break bread with me.” He stated that their presence was “a testament to their shared commitment to the collective good and future prospects of the NPP.”
Akufo-Addo also told the gathering he has “worked closely with each aspirant and holds them in high esteem,” and encouraged them to conduct their campaigns in a “healthy, issue-based manner that focuses on presenting their visions to the party delegates.”
He emphasised that his “primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process and to working towards a properly energised and rallied party, fully prepared to secure victory in the 2028 elections.”
In a significant show of solidarity, each of the five aspirants gave their “personal assurance, and that of their campaign teams, to maintain a healthy but competitive campaign atmosphere.” They also expressed their “commitment and that of their supporters, to rally behind the eventual winner and uphold the unity of the party after the primaries.”
