The Member of Parliament for Adaklu and a former student of Mawuli School in the Volta Region, Governs Agbodza has charged his fellow old students to continue holding the flag of the school high.

He made the call at the 75th anniversary celebration of the school on October 25.

“Let our hearts be anchored in compassion, humility, and integrity. And let our hands always be ready to serve and to build. In an age where corruption, greed, and moral compromise threaten the very foundations of our nation, we must be the difference. Let us lead by example, in public service, in business, in education, and in every sphere of life. Let us demonstrate that the values instilled here, discipline, honesty, and hard work still matter and still produce results,” he said in his Keynote address.

SPEECH BY HON. KWAME GOVERNS AGBODZA (MP) AS SPECIAL GUEST AT THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF MAWULI SCHOOL ON 25TH OCTOBER 2025 THEME: “EMPOWERING THE HEAD, HEART AND HAND INTO THE FUTURE”

Ladies and Gentlemen,
• It is a great honour and a profound personal joy to stand before you today not only as the Member of Parliament for Adaklu, and
as the Minister for Roads and Highways but more importantly, as a proud son of Mawuli School.

• To be back on this sacred ground where our dreams first took shape, and to celebrate seventy-five years of excellence, discipline, and service, is truly humbling. Seventy-five years ago, through the foresight of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, the founders of this great institution set out to build a school that would educate not only the mind but also the heart and the hands.

• That vision gave birth to our timeless motto: “Head, Heart, and Hands.” It reminds us that true education must go beyond academic knowledge, it must mould character and inspire service to humanity.

• From its modest beginnings in 1950, Mawuli School became a beacon of learning and moral discipline in the Volta Region and across Ghana. It has never been merely a place to pass examinations; it has been a place to shape citizens who think critically, feel deeply, and act responsibly.

Mr. Chairman,

• When you look across this country, in our classrooms and laboratories, in our hospitals, in Parliament, in the military, in our churches, and across the private sector, you will find the fingerprints of Old Mawulians.

For seventy-five years, this school has contributed immensely to Ghana’s human capital development. It has produced thinkers, builders, reformers, and leaders who continue to serve with distinction, both at home and abroad.

• From the corridors of power to the fields of science and technology, from the pulpit to the factory floor, Old Mawulians have demonstrated that when the head, heart, and hands are trained together, greatness follows. Indeed, the story of Mawuli School is inseparable from the story of Ghana’s progress.

• Over the decades, the Old Mawuli Students’ Union (OMSU) has been a steadfast pillar of support, helping to sustain the school through infrastructure rehabilitation, scholarships, mentorship programmes, and advocacy.

• Through these collective efforts, we have shown that our connection to Mawuli does not end at graduation; it is lifelong commitment.

My dear fellow Old Mawulians,
• As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, let us also look ahead. The next seventy-five years will demand even more from us,
innovation, vision, and a renewed sense of purpose.

• We must equip the school for the digital era, strengthen science and technology education, enhance facilities, and ensure that every talented child, regardless of background, has access to quality education here at Mawuli. This great school must not only remain relevant, but it must also lead.

Mr. Chairman, My dear fellow Old Mawulians,
• Permit me to leave you with a simple charge. As we rise in our professions and communities, let us remember that we carry the
image and reputation of this great school with us.
• Our conduct, our ethics, and our professionalism reflect not just who we are but what Mawuli stands for. Let our heads continue
to seek knowledge and wisdom.

• Let our hearts be anchored in compassion, humility, and integrity. And let our hands always be ready to serve and to build.
• In an age where corruption, greed, and moral compromise threaten the very foundations of our nation, we must be the
difference. Let us lead by example, in public service, in business, in education, and in every sphere of life.
• Let us demonstrate that the values instilled here, discipline, honesty, and hard work still matter and still produce results.

Mr. Chairman,
• As we commemorate this seventy-fifth anniversary, let us honour our founders, our past and present teachers, and all who sacrificed
to make Mawuli School what it is today.
• But more importantly, let us rededicate ourselves to shaping the future of this great institution. Let us give back with our time, our resources, and our talents.
• Together, let us build a Mawuli School that will continue to produce men and women of head, heart, and hands ready to serve God and country with pride.

May God bless Mawuli School.
May God bless all Old Mawulians.
And may God bless our beloved Ghana.
Thank you
