The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, says preparations are far advanced for the 29th GJA Media Awards, scheduled to take place this weekend at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

For the first time in the history of the Association, the national awards ceremony will be hosted in the Ashanti Region, a move Mr. Dwumfour described as a “bold and historic step” to honour the cultural significance of the region and deepen media engagement across the country.

The event will be hosted by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, with the President of the Republic as the Special Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker. Also expected are the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, and the Acting Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, as Special Guests.

“This weekend, all roads lead to the Manhyia Palace as we celebrate another year of excellence in journalism,” Mr. Dwumfour said. “Almost everything that we need to have a successful event is being done. Tomorrow, we will announce the nominees for this prestigious awards ceremony.”

The 29th edition is being held under the theme: “Safeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security and the Fight Against Galamsey.”

Mr. Dwumfour said about 35 journalists who have distinguished themselves in the past year will be honoured for their outstanding work.

“We are determined to deliver a befitting celebration of journalistic excellence that will inspire confidence in the Ghanaian media and strengthen our collective resolve to protect the public interest,” the GJA President emphasized.

The GJA Media Awards remains the highest recognition of journalistic achievement in Ghana, celebrating professionalism, ethical conduct, and dedication to truth.
