Families of those who tragically lost their lives in Wednesday’s military recruitment stampede have been asked to nominate a family representative to take the place of their deceased relatives in the ongoing recruitment process.

During a visit to the home of one of the victims in the Central Region, Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi disclosed that the directive follows an order from the President. He explained that the government is committed to ensuring that the dreams of the young people who died in the incident are not completely lost.

According to him, “The President has instructed that an opportunity be given to a family member of each deceased person to replace them in the recruitment process. This is to ensure that no family is left without hope after this unfortunate incident.”

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Agnes Naa Momo spoke during the visit, assuring families that the government is mobilizing full psychological and welfare support for all those affected. She announced that trained psychologists will be deployed to counsel survivors and traumatized family members.

She noted that the Ministry will assist with funeral arrangements and provide continuous social support. “We want the families to know that they are not alone. The Ministry stands firmly with you during this difficult time, and we will ensure you receive all necessary support,” she said.

The government has further pledged to work closely with local authorities, security agencies, and health officials as investigations continue into the cause of the stampede, which occurred during the mass turnout for military recruitment on Wednesday.
