Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza has stated that government intends to complete all projects under the Big Push Agenda by end of 2027.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 New Day, Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the Minister assured that funds have been purposefully allocated for the project to complete it within the 24 month scheduling period.
He said the Big Push Project is not merely a road project but a “growth poll subset of the President’s 24-hour Economy policy.”
“We are determined to complete these projects by the close of 2027. We are determined to do this and we know with the support of the Ghanaian contractor and everybody, we are going to do this,” he stated.
He explained that to avoid the Big Push Project going beyond the contractual period, over GHC40 billion has been earmarked for the project to see its completion on time.
“The Finance Minister in the 2025 Budget set aside over 13 billion Ghana Cedis to start this project. In the 2026 Budget, he is setting aside additional GHC30 billion, so we already have over GHC40 billion earmarked between this year and next year,” he noted.
The Minister disclosed that he is yet to receive a single certificate from any of the contractors for the Big Push project, noting that he is hopeful that certificates will be forwarded to him by mid-December as some contractors have already commenced work.
“And I haven’t received a single certificate this year for project because the contractors are now on site. I am hopeful that by the middle of next month, I will receive some certificates because I know that some people have done 30% of the work.
“So it is fully funded and that is why we believe that we will be able to deliver this project on time. We are not intending to make this project the usual complaints about we couldn’t finish because we have changed the scope of variation,” he added.
The Roads Minister vowed that government will not indulge any unauthorised road project which could be a distraction to complete the project.
“There will be no unauthorized variations on this project…even if it is in my constituency, additional work which has not been contracted will not be allowed so that we can stay focus and do the work within the 24 month,” he emphasised.
He noted that the Big Push project is expected to generate close to 500,000 jobs within the period of construction. These jobs, he said ranges from menial jobs to high-end jobs in terms of civil engineers, etc.
