The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has said that it has withdrawn the lithium agreement submitted to Parliament for approval.

This is contained in a press release dated December 10.

“The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources wishes to inform the public that, following extensive consultations and constructive engagements with key stakeholders across the country, the Sector Minister – Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP) has withdrawn the Lithium Agreement currently before Parliament,” the press release signed by Director of Communications, Ama Mawusi Mawuenyefia indicated.

it explained that, “This decision reflects Government’s commitment to responsive and participatory governance, ensuring that all policies serve the national interest and incorporate the views of the people. We acknowledge that the concerns raised merit deeper consideration and that Ghana will benefit from a more robust agreement, shaped by more inclusive dialogue and backed by law.

The Ministry further noted that “As a clear demonstration of Government’s unwavering commitment to refining our legal and regulatory landscape for the benefit of every Ghanaian, the process of refining this legal instrument has been formally initiated based on substantive feedback received from stakeholders. This is to ensure that our natural resource governance meets the highest standards of fairness and national interest.

It assured that “The Ministry will continue to compile and review the valuable proposals received during these engagements. Subsequently, a revised agreement, grounded in the national interest, developed in full compliance with Ghana’s laws, and enriched by stakeholder contributions, will be laid before Parliament in due course.
