The Former Minister of Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye has insisted that he is not against Accra-Kumasi Expressway project.
On the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, December 17,2025, the Bantama MP, took the opportunity to state his position on the proposed Accra- Kumasi Expressway.
“No serious policymaker would oppose a modern expressway linking Ghana’s two largest cities. The corridor is vital to our economy, trade, and national integration.
However, legitimate concerns were raised about the risk of abandoning the existing Accra–Kumasi Highway, which is already substantially advanced (64 percent physical progress). In this regard, I welcome and acknowledge the assurance by His Excellency the President that the ongoing highway project will not be abandoned and will be completed alongside the proposed expressway development,” he said.
According to Mr Boakye “Parliament must insist that projects of this magnitude are not rushed but be done right. As of now:
• There is no completed feasibility study before Parliament
• The total project cost is not yet known
• The engineering design is not finalised
• The final alignment has not been determined
Yet, we are being asked to approve a concession agreement.”
He said doing the right project must also mean doing it the right way.
“Prudence, proper sequencing, and due diligence are not obstacles to development; they are essential safeguards for value for money and fiscal sustainability.
My position remains clear: we support the vision, but insist on proper preparation, transparency, and careful evaluation before final commitments are made,” the former roads minister noted.
