The Aowin Municipal Assembly has commenced the construction of modern speed ramps along the Enchi-Asankragwa highway to help reduce the alarming rate of road accidents in the municipality.

The move follows an Onua News report a few months ago that highlighted the increasing number of road crashes in Aowin, largely due to the absence of speed ramps on the major highways.

During a previous General Assembly meeting, the Medical Superintendent of the Enchi Government Hospital revealed that road accidents constituted the majority of emergency cases received at the facility.

Hospital data showed that in the first half of 2025 alone, 110 road accidents were recorded, with several victims losing their lives.

Confirming the situation, the Divisional Police Command attributed many of the accidents to overspeeding, explaining that the absence of speed ramps encouraged drivers and motor riders to drive recklessly.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Aowin, Stephen Morcher, pledged to address the issue, a promise that has now been fulfilled.

The MCE, together with the Assembly, began construction of the speed ramps on December 16, 2025, starting from Mile 4 on the Enchi–Asankragwa highway to Nana Brentu Senior High School.

Morcher reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people, stating that he cannot be MCE while his people continue to lose their lives through preventable accidents caused by over speeding.

With Christmas approaching, he said it was important to take proactive steps to safeguard lives.

He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his leadership and inspiration, adding that serving under his administration motivates him to prioritize the welfare of the people.

The MCE further advised drivers and motor riders to exercise caution during the festive season, conduct proper vehicle checks before traveling, and strictly adhere to road safety regulations.
