The Member of Parliament for the Mpohor–Fiase Constituency, Godfred Kofi Bentil, has distributed 2,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers in the constituency as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and reduce production costs.
The fertilizer support, which benefits 17 registered farmer associations in the district, is aimed at easing the financial burden on farmers who often travel to Takoradi to purchase, an added cost that significantly affects their operations.
Speaking at a brief ceremony to hand over the fertilizers, Kofi Bentil urged beneficiary farmers to use the inputs judiciously and refrain from selling them, stressing that the intervention forms part of government’s broader agenda to support farmers and make agriculture more attractive.

“Government is providing these fertilizers to support farmers. There should be no justification for selling them,” he cautioned.
The MP reaffirmed his commitment to addressing challenges facing farmers in the constituency, revealing that earth-moving equipment has already been deployed to open up access roads to various farm sites, a long-standing concern among farmers.

The Agricultural Extension Agent, Fidelis Kayriyea, commended the MP for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, adding that the support could save an individual farmer at least GH¢1,000 in fertilizer purchase and transportation.
He encouraged farmers to join recognised farmer associations, noting that organised groups are better positioned to benefit from government interventions and agricultural support programmes.
Some beneficiary farmers described the intervention as unprecedented in the area, praising the MP for ensuring fair and equitable distribution of the fertilizers.
They expressed optimism that the support would significantly improve crop yields and livelihoods in the constituency.
