My attention has been drawn to the purported plans by the NPP leadership to expel Prof. Frimpong Boateng following his interview with Bernard Avle yesterday.

The plan to expel him is misguided. It will harm the damaged NPP further.

This morning, I took the trouble to watch the whole interview. It was patriotic, visionary, nationalistic and inspiring. In the very short segment on the NPP he expressed his frustration with the direction of the NPP with words that could have been chosen better.

But he was right that the party is off course. It was damaged by the NADAA government in the last 8 years, before the 2024 elections and the damage has been exacerbated since then.

Indeed, his allegations that the last NPP primary was rigged has been made by others, including Hon. Kennedy Agyapong. The NPP will not bring home the 1.2 million followers who voted for John Mahama with threats and expulsions.

Only humility and reconciliation will bring them back. No good party would expel a national treasure like Frimpong Boateng. The honour in the Professor’s association with the party belongs to the NPP, not the Professor.

Listening to him, I wondered why we are not drafting him for President!!

Finally, historically, criticism of one’s party has often been a prelude to great leadership. Lenin, Reagan, Clinton, Blair ,Trump and NADAA all had criticisms of their party before going on to lead those parties.

Parties are built with inclusion and tolerance. Let the NPP build bridges to unite, not walls to divide. God bless NPP and Ghana.
