The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, says the recent budget revision on the Black Stars saved the government about $700,000 in two games.

He said there were no adverse consequences on the team despite the downward review.

“The players did not suffer,” he stressed.

“The technical team did not suffer. They continued to receive, Your Excellency, what is due them even in these savings.”

The Sports Minister made this known on Thursday, January 22 when the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, paid a visit to his Ministry.

Mr Adams noted that the rationalisation of the Black Stars budget was done in conjunction with the GFA, whose President was in attendance.

The savings covered the two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

According to Mr Adams, who is also the Member of Parliament for Buem, a total of $2 million would have been spent on the team on the two games but $1.3 million was rather spent.

The Black Stars are currently preparing for the global showpiece, which begins in June.
