Ismail Abdul Razak, Special Aide to Hajia Amina Mahama, wife of the late Ayawaso East MP has revealed that Hajia Amina will pick nomination forms on Saturday, January 24, 2026 to contest the upcoming by-election.
Speaking on TV3’s News Central, Friday, January 23, 2026, Ismail Razak noted that the NDC populace in the constituency have resolved to pick the nomination forms on behalf of the late MP’s wife with the belief that she is the best candidate to succeed her husband.
He further explained that the constituents and the NDC populace have also decided to campaign for Hajia Amina Mahama to win the by-election.
He noted that Hajia’s decision to enter the race stemmed from strong appeals from constituents, party grassroots members and traditional leaders to continue the works of her late husband.
“As I am speaking to you now tomorrow (Saturday, January 24, 2026), the Assembly members upon their promise will go and pick the nomination forms for her to come and contest.
“So it is not the idea of Hajia Amina Mahama to contest but a decision of the community and the NDC populace who are calling her to come and contest and continue the good work of her husband who died last month,” he noted.
He added: “Those who encouraged her to contest which is the constituents or the populace within NDC in Ayawaso East are going to take the forms, campaign for her and ensure by February 7 she will be the winner.”
Hajia Amina Adam has announced her intention to contest the upcoming parliamentary by-election in the constituency.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 22, Hajia Adam said her decision to enter the race was driven by strong appeals from constituents, party grassroots members and traditional elders, who encouraged her to continue the work of her late husband.
She noted that the late Mahama Naser Toure served the Ayawaso East Constituency with dedication and distinction, and said she had carefully reflected on the calls made by community leaders before agreeing to serve.
“There has been a clarion call from many quarters in my constituency and beyond for me to step into the shoes of my late husband. After deep reflection and consultations, particularly with elders and grassroots members, I have accepted the call to serve my people,” she stated.
Hajia Adam acknowledged that her decision comes during a period of personal grief but said she was motivated by the support and counsel of chiefs, imams, youth leaders and other opinion leaders within the constituency.
“I want to assure them that I will not disappoint them,” she added.
