Legendary gospel musician Stella Abba Seal has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Yaw Sarpong, describing his death as frightening and a heavy blow to the gospel music fraternity.

Despite her grief, she emphasized the importance of celebrating legends while they are alive rather than waiting until they pass away.

In an interview with Onua TV’s Nana Afia Oforiwaa, Stella lamented that most of our legends, including musicians, actors and footballers are not adequately honoured during their lifetimes.

Instead, she noted, people often make large donations after their deaths, saying that these huge funeral donations will never bring them back to life.

“Yaw Sarpong is not that old, he would be around 65. In the Western world, people aged 60 to 65 are considered middle-aged. When you observe, you realize that most of the legends who died were around that age, and that frightens us,” she said.

She added, “It is worrying when you see your colleagues die like that, it hits harder. So, I plead with people, celebrate us while we are alive. Celebrate me now, do not wait until I die. I plan to live long but celebrate me now.”

Stella also revealed that she recorded about 300 songs early in her career, at a time when modern technologies were unavailable.

She now intends to refurbish many of those songs, including producing new videos, to revive and sustain Christian music.

She therefore appealed to companies to support musicians with sponsorships when approached, stressing that such backing is crucial for executing projects.

Known for timeless hits such as Gyeme Taataa, Daadaa Nyinaa, Asafo Yehowa, and Pentecost Gya, Stella Abba Seal announced the release of her new single, ‘Awurade Bedzi Nnim’, after a long break.

She encouraged Ghanaians, especially her fans, to support the song and download it across all music platforms.
