About Ten (10) communities around the Abrewanko electoral area in the Yilo krobo Municipality are cheating death, as they depend on the only stream contaminated with fecal matter for domestic and agricultural purposes.
The communities include Labolabo, Namusi, Nyamebekyere and others, farming communities off the Nkurakan to Somanya road in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The Assemblyman for the Abrewanko electoral area, Mr. Sampson Tettey told Onuaonline in an interview that there are over 2000 persons, including children depending on the contaminated water for drinking, cooking and other household chores.

According to him, the same stream serves as source of water used at the Labolabo Clinic for health care services.
Mr. Tettey added that because of lack of toilet facilities in the area, many people engage in open defecation which drains into the stream when it rains.
The situation is causing many unknown communicable diseases, affecting mostly children, hence the urgent need for assistance to curb disease outbreak.

Mr. Tettey therefore pleaded with the Eastern Regional Minister and the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, Non-governmental Organizations and philanthropists for help.
The Dadematse, (Sub-Chief) for the area, Nene Kingsley Teye Antwi expressed deep concerns about the situation, saying, “it is a serious health threat”.
