Lawyer and former Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi has said the Supreme Court ruling to reinstate Matthew Nyindam as elected MP for Kpandai should put the matter to rest.

The NDC Parliamentary candidate in Kpandai, Daniel Nsala Wakpal filed an election petition which resulted in the annulment of Nyindam’s election in 2024.

Wakpala’s petition led to the Tamale High Court ring a rerun of the election which duly elected Matthew Nyindam.

Lawyers of Nyindam then escalated the matter to the apex court arguing that the High Court judge lacked jurisdiction and the petition was filed after the mandatory 21-day period by which the election had already been gazetted.

In court on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the Supreme Court quashed the High Court ruling, reinstated Nyindam as elected MP for Kpandai.

Reacting to the matter in an interview on TV3’s News Central, January 28, Andy Appiah-Kubi explained that with the majority decision of 4-1 by the Supreme Court Judges, a review of the ruling is difficult although not impossible.

“When the decision of the court is 4 against 1 and you want to go for a review, it is difficult. So, you need to make an application where the court will grant you the leave to go on a review.

“I am sure that the decision that is given today should retire the interest in this case,” he stated.

With the latest ruling by the Apex Court, the decision will be served on the Speaker and Clerk of Parliament and it takes immediate effect.

Matthew Nyindam has also expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court’s ruling on the matter.

Speaking to journalists after the court’s ruling, he said “the Supreme Court has affirmed the will of the people and I am most grateful to them.”

Nyindam further expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court Judges for their decision while thanking the NPP supporters, his lawyers and the people of Kpandai for their support through the legal tussle.

“I also want to thank the party from the Head to the bottom for the support they have given me and the people of Kpandai.

“I also want to thank His Excellency, the former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the support he has given me throughout and I am most grateful. I know that by the will of God he will serve this great nation once again,” he added.
