A police operation at Danso, near Bawjiase in the Awutu Senya district of the Central region has led to the shooting and killing of Clement kofi Aidoo, a.k.a. Yaw, Paddy and Joseph Abequaye, suspected to be an armed robber.
The Friday, February 6, 2026 incident followed an investigation into a violent robbery attack in Labone, where the suspected allegedly resisted arrest.
A police says the suspect attempted an attack on the officers with a machete when they got to the scene.
“Upon spotting the officers, the suspect jumped through a window, wielding a sharp cutlass, and attempted to attack them. Our officers opened fire, critically injuring him,” the source disclosed.
The suspect was rushed to the Police Hospital afterwards but pronounced dead by the doctors.
The operation followed a petition filed on January 30, 2026, by the Inspector-General of Police to the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The petition was in response to a robbery reported by 77-year-old Madam Christiana Frimpong, who said she was attacked by armed men in her Labone home on December 4, 2025.
The robbers are alleged to have tied the hands and legs of their victim and covered her face with a plastic bag, and made away with her Toyota Hilux pickup (GW 9834-25), an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and other belongings.
The officers, during the operation, recovered the stolen Hilux, several documents, the complainant’s mobile phone, and identification cards, including a Voter ID and a Police ID card belonging to G/Sgt Daniel Kusi Appiah of the Kaneshie Divisional Headquarters.
According to investigations, the suspect had previously been employed as a domestic worker for the police officer through the KKN Domestic and Recruitment Agency.
G/Sgt Appiah told investigators that the suspect, who had been working at his residence since November 1, 2025, allegedly stole his Toyota Camry (GC 123-12), police and voter ID cards, GH¢12,200 in cash, and other personal items while assisting him at Ridge Hospital on November 14, 2025.
Paddy, the suspect, was identified as a native of Bontrase in the Central Region. On January 25, 2026, he was reportedly seen driving the stolen Camry in Bontrase but abandoned the vehicle at Kojoacquah Village during a hot pursuit.
Meanwhile, police investigations are ongoing to determine whether the deceased the suspect had accomplices with him in the Labone robbery incident and other reported ones.
