A total of 407 students are celebrating a major milestone as they graduate from Tumu College of Education, marking a 47 per cent increase from last year’s batch.

The graduation ceremony coincides with the college’s 40th anniversary, highlighting four decades of quality teacher training and dedication to Ghana’s educational development.

The graduating class comprises 211 males and 196 females, with 8 students obtaining First Class honours.

Prof. Peter Awon-Natemi Agbedemnab, Principal of the Tumu College, praised the students’ resilience and hard work, acknowledging the college’s growth from 40 students and 6 staff in 1985 to 1,191 students and 72 staff in 2026.

“This feat chalked by our gallant celebrants is also indicative of the hard work and resilience of a team of academics, professionals, and administrators, all of whom have and remain committed to the Tumu College of Education’s vision,” he stated.

According to Prof. Agbedemnab, the College has made significant contributions to Ghana’s socio-economic growth, producing notable alumni in politics, academia, health, and security.

Prof highlighted some persistent challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, poor ICT facilities, and funding constraints. He appealed to the government, stakeholders, and alumni to support the College’s development, emphasising the need for improved infrastructure and resources to enhance quality education.

He urged graduates to be ambassadors of the institution, inspiring future generations through their professional conduct and contributions.

Edina Adiribe, the valedictorian, in a heartfelt speech acknowledged the challenges faced by the graduating class, including late-night studies, early morning classes, and financial struggles.

She also paid tribute to their late colleague, Prosper, who began the journey but couldn’t finish it.

Edina emphasized that education is not just a profession, but a calling, and urged her fellow graduates to make a difference in the lives of their students.

She expressed gratitude to her lecturers, mentors, friends, and family members for their unwavering support throughout her journey.
