At Saboba in the Northern region, fire has razed down a Children’s Ward at the Assemblies of God (AG) Hospital, displacing young patients and disrupting services at the facility.
The Saturday, February 21, 2026 outbreak razed the entire ward, destroying beds, medical equipment, and other essential supplies.
According to an eyewitness, “We were in the ward and noticed the fire started at the entrance of the children’s ward, so we started running out before it spread rapidly through the facility.”
Reports indicate there were six children on admission at the hospital at the time the broke out but were successfully evacuated by the Hospital staff, along with relatives. The children have since been relocated to other wards to continue receiving medical care.
Although personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly to the scene, challenges with equipment reportedly hampered initial efforts to contain the blaze.
The personnel were later supported by residents and other security personnel to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining wards, eventually bringing the situation under control.
No casualties were recorded. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Hospital authorities are expected to conduct a full assessment of the damage as steps are taken to restore services at the facility.
