The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has reiterated that nation-building requires the active participation of all citizens.
He emphasised that patriotism must not only be expressed during national celebrations such as Independence Day but should also be reflected in our daily conduct.
Mr. Nelson made these remarks during the 69th Independence Day celebrations in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.

At a short ceremony to mark the occasion in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, this year’s event took a unique turn.
Unlike previous years, where school children paraded in their various school uniforms, this year’s celebration featured only the cadet corps from senior high schools in the municipality, alongside the cadet corps from the University of Mines and Technology.

Addressing the gathering, the Regional Minister, who spoke on the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” stated that the theme speaks directly to our national aspirations and reminds us that the work of nation-building requires active participation, commitment and shared responsibility of all citizens.
“The Western Region continues to play a significant role in Ghana’s development through its natural resources, agricultural potential, and industrial activities. These opportunities must be managed responsibly so that they translate into sustainable development and improved livelihoods for our people.

At the same time, we must collectively safeguard our environment, particularly our forests and water bodies, from destructive activities such as illegal mining.
Protecting these natural resources is essential to securing the long-term prosperity of our communities.
Nation-building requires the active participation of all of us.

Patriotism must not only be expressed during national celebrations such as this, but also through our daily conduct by respecting our laws, protecting public property, working diligently, and contributing positively to our communities.”
He advised the younger generation: “Let me encourage you to remain focused on your education and personal development. The future of our nation rests on the knowledge, skills, discipline, and creativity that you bring to the task of nation-building. Your generation holds the key to a stronger and more prosperous Ghana.”
The 69th Independence Day celebrations saw participation from all municipal and district assemblies across the region.
