The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has stated that the government is prepared to facilitate overseas medical treatment for a victim of the military recruitment exercise stampede, Sandra Baafi Boateng if medical specialists recommend it.
Addressing Parliament on Monday, March 9, the minister provided an update on Ms. Baafi Boateng’s condition following the injuries she sustained during a recruitment exercise organised by the Ghana Armed Forces.
Mr. Akandoh assured lawmakers that the Ministry of Health has been working closely with the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to ensure that the victim receives the required specialist care.
“I wish to assure this Honourable House that the Ministry of Health has remained actively engaged with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to ensure that Ms. Sandra Baafi Boateng receives the requisite specialist care and that every necessary step is being taken to expedite her treatment and recovery,” he said.
According to the minister, Ms. Baafi Boateng sustained severe injuries during the recruitment exercise held on November 12, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
She initially received inpatient treatment under specialist supervision, with the government covering all medical expenses to ease the financial burden on her and her family.
Mr. Akandoh further disclosed that on February 26, 2026, she was transferred to the 37 Military Hospital for further care.
She is currently receiving treatment from a specialist-led multidisciplinary team, with her care programme also including rehabilitation and social support to aid her recovery.
The Health Minister emphasised that the government is exploring all appropriate medical options, both locally and internationally, to ensure the victim receives the best possible treatment.
“Government is also considering all appropriate medical options both locally and where necessary abroad to ensure that she receives the best available care,” he added.
Ms. Baafi Boateng has remained bedridden since the incident during the 2025/2026 enlistment exercise.
