There is renewed hope for motorists in the Mpohor District, as the long-neglected Apowa to Mpohor road has been incorporated into President Mahama’s “Big Push” initiative.
Work has now begun on the thirteen-kilometre stretch, which remained unmotorable despite sod-cutting ceremonies in 2018 and 2021.
Traditional leaders and residents are optimistic about its completion.
Mpohor, a district renowned for its palm plantations and mining for decades, has become a neglected area for many due to its poor road network.
The road has seen two separate sod-cutting ceremonies one in 2018 by President Akufo-Addo and another in 2021 by the then Roads Minister, Amoako Atta yet no tangible results have emerged, leaving motorists to complain about its deplorable state day in and day out.
Fast forward to today, under President Mahama’s “Big Push” initiative, the 13.1-kilometre stretch from Kejebir through Mpohor to Adum Banso has been awarded to Justmoh Construction.
The road will be paved rather than asphalted, bringing renewed hope to the district. The project is expected to be completed within a 24-month timeframe.
“This road design is a continuation of the Apowa to Kejebir road type. It is going to be a paved road, with paving blocks as the final finish, with a strength of fifty newtons.
We have started producing the paving blocks at our factory; it’s about sixteen million pieces of paving blocks that we are going to use for this stretch. The crushed rock for the base and sub-base is also under production at our quarry.
So, you will see the road very busy very soon, maybe getting to the tail end of this month and into next month. But in summary, what we are saying is, you have our assurance that we are going to execute this project to the fullest, and also to meet the required specifications as far as quality control is concerned.
So rest assured, the construction period is twenty-four months, and we are very confident that by God’s grace, we are going to finish it in that time frame.” Mr. Justice Amoh mentioned.
During a site visit on Monday, March 9, 2026, to inspect the preparatory work on the ground, Western Region Minister Joseph Nelson expressed his excitement over the contractor’s return to the project, adding that his joy will be complete when the job is done.
“I’m happy to note that Jostmoh Construction has come on site, courtesy of the President’s efforts. So let me say a big thank you to His Excellency for listening to the concerns of the people and acting to get the contractor on site.
Let me also indicate that I am excited together with the District Chief Executive and the people as well that the contractor is back on site. However, our joy will be full when the job is done. And so, we expect that you will do a good job, as always.” He stated.
Twaah Kwame, Safohene for the Mpohor Traditional Area said, “Many contractors have come here claiming they would work on the road, but they yielded no results they abandoned the site and the project. Our main focus is to see our road become motorable, because this has been our major headache and problem in the district.
So, we pray that this time, we see a positive outcome from this project. And if it is the plan of any demonic force, we pray that this time, it does not hold water.
We are very delighted upon hearing that this will be a paved road, and we are very grateful.” He said.
