The Odumase Krobo Police has rejected a GH¢200,000.00 bribery from three suspects for the possession of fake currency.
The three were found with bundles of suspected counterfeit US dollar notes concealed in a metal tank at Odumase Laasi.
According to the police, one of the suspects allegedly attempted to bribe the officers with 200,000 in a bid to evade the arrest which they refused.
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigation into the matter to determine the source of the notes and the intended destination of the circulation.
Fake currency is a serious issue in Ghana, with several cases reported recently. In one instance, an Accra Circuit Court sentenced Shubham Sharma, an Indian and manager, to five years’ imprisonment for possessing fake GH¢200 notes totaling GH¢1,976,000 and counterfeit US$100 notes amounting to US$191,900.
Sharma had replaced genuine cash with counterfeit notes from his employer’s safe.
In another case, 11 foreigners were arrested in January 2026 for producing counterfeit US dollars at Tuba, a suburb of Accra.
The Bank of Ghana has warned the public to be vigilant when receiving large sums of money, while law enforcement agencies are working to combat the spread of fake currency in the country.
