President John Mahama has urged Organised Labour to continue to bear with government as it continues to develop the economy to the point where all Ghanaians can enjoy the benefits.

The President said this when he interacted with the leadership of Organised Labour at the Jubilee House on March 17 for a session dubbed, “Presidential Dialogue with Organised Labour.”

He said government has nothing to hide, thus the statistics that the Finance Minister and other state agencies have been providing represent the reality on the ground.

“This government has nothing to hide. What you see is what you get. The only way we can get a bigger cake is to grow the size of the national cake. The statistics we give you is the real situation. All of us are tightening our belts together,” President Mahama said.

He noted that the objective of the meeting was therefore to acknowledge the role of labour in the development effort.

“Because you need laboour to move the economy forward, “he said

He added that the meeting lies at the core of national development agenda- welfare, dignity and productivity of the Ghanaian worker.

“Today’s meeting is therefore not just a dialogue, it is collective responsibility to reset and reimagine the future of work and compensation and social protection in Ghana,” the President said.

“As part of our reset agenda, government has dedicated 2026 as the year of transforming from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to a new independent Emoluments Commission.

This reform is not about dismantling the progress we have achieved. The FWSC will be the institutional core to bring about this transformation,” he announced.

According to him, “We will reinforce and reposition the Emoluments Commission to become the technical cornerstone of modern independent national authority capable of managing public sector pay with professionalism independence and credibility.”

President Mahama explained that with this reform, “Government aims to address longstanding inequities within the Public Sector, rationalize allowances, and strengthen the gap between pay and productivity.”

“This reform will be implemented in a phased manner in consultation with Organized Labour,” he assured.
