Eyewitnesses indicate the driver was speeding and lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the shop.

At the time of the incident, the affected apprentices were sitting in front of the shop sewing, while others were inside.

It reportedly took some time for victims trapped in the shop to be rescued by residents.

“I received a call around 5 PM yesterday about the incident. I rushed to the scene and realized that a pickup vehicle had crashed into a dressmaking shop. Two apprentices at the shop were severely affected and were rushed to the Essikadu Government Hospital, where Mercy Oparebea was pronounced dead.

The other victim is currently receiving treatment at the Effiankwanta Hospital and is now in stable condition. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary. Eyewitnesses at the scene alleged that the driver was drunk, which may have caused the crash. The area is a community where drivers are not expected to drive at such high speeds to cause this kind of accident,” Assembly Member for Ketan, Mingle Kasum, told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show.

The driver has since been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
