The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested twelve members of a notorious highway robbery syndicate believed to be behind a string of violent robberies across parts of the Ashanti North Region and other regions.
The exercise was carried on 12th and 14th March, 2026.
Briefing the media on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at headquarters of Ashanti North, Asante Mampong, the Regional Commander, ACP Felix Apedo, said the arrests followed sustained intelligence-led investigations gathering and surveillance conducted over a period of about two months.
“We mounted a special operation at Offinso, Nkenkaasu,Akomadan, Techiman,Chiraa and Sunyani and their environs in collaboration with the NOD/Surveillance Unit Headquarters, Accra, arrested 12 highway rubbers,”he said.
He mentioned the suspects as Seidu Fuseini alias Baali (Ex-Convict released in 2022), Dramani Rasak 22 (on bail for murder case under trial in Kumasi- he killed police civilian employee in Mankranso last year), Moro Yakubu alias Dogo/Taller /Hajia Bintu (Ex-convict).
Others include Ibhrahim Issiaka,28, alias Jaaji (an escapee from Jaima police station), Zakaria Fuseini,28, Amadu Umaru,30, Iddrisu Abubakar 30, Issah Alhassan,40, among others.

During the operation, the police retrieved 3 locally manufactured shotguns, one locally made pistol, 9 live BB Cartridges, 4 cutlasses, one sword, 2 knives, 41 mobile phones ,7 mobile phones covers, one fertilizer bag used to conceal the weapons, 3 black hooded dress, one with blood stains, among others.
ACP Apedo, told the media that, some of the mobile phones have since been identified by victims of robbery.
He said on 23rd February, 2026, at about 0420 hours, a group of armed robbers attacked motorists along the Nsuta-Hwidiem Old Junction Road in the Nsuta District and robbed victims of cash amounting to approximately GHC57,000 and several mobile phones.
The suspects were armed with shotgun, cutlasses, and sticks.
Investigations further revealed that suspect Zakaria Fuseini was initially invited to participate in the robbery but declined, citing Islamic fasting. However, he later received GHC500 as his share of the booty.
On 29th January, 2026, at about 0800 hours, robbers attacked motorists along the Nkenkaasu-Darso stretch of the Kumasi-Techiman Highway in the Akomadan district and robbed motorists of unspecified cash and mobile phones.
On 2nd February, 2026, at about 2130 hours, another robbery occurred along the Nkenkaasu-Darso road also in the Akomadan District where the suspects attacked a VIP Bus carrying 49 passengers.
Two female victims sustained gunshot wounds on their thighs. Suspects took away unspecified amount of cash and mobile phones.
According to the police, the suspects further disclosed that they had planned to carry out another robbery operation at Akomadan-Darso on 14th March,2026, but the plan was foiled due to their arrest on the same day.
During interrogation the suspects further admitted their involvement in other robbery incidents at: Mampong-Ejura stretch about two months ago, Offinso Kokoti (about three months ago),Wenchi (during the 2025 Sallah festivities), Booko Sunyani road (about three months ago), Buipe/Northern region (about three months ago, they stole a cow), Obuasi (about two months ago, where one suspect was killed during a shootout with police.
He said efforts are underway to arrest the two other accomplices identified, who are currently at large.
He called on the public to support police with credible information to arrest armed robbers in the area.
