A tragic early morning fire at Kodjona in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region has claimed the lives of a husband and wife, while leaving their four-year-old son in critical condition.

The Zonal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation, Alormenyo Joycelyn Dansowaa, says she received a distress call at about 7:15 a.m. and quickly rushed to the scene.

She then alerted personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service in Somanya, who responded promptly to contain the fire.

Eyewitnesses say the fire is believed to have started around 6:30 am, trapping the couple and their young son inside their home.

The child survived but is currently receiving treatment in critical condition at a hospital.

The two adults were later pronounced dead at the Atua Government Hospital, where their bodies have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Preliminary information suggests the couple had begun their morning routine before the incident. The woman was reportedly preparing to wash clothes, while the man had gone out earlier to purchase insecticide to deal with a bedbug infestation.

The incident attracted residents and officials, including the Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo, John Atter Matey, who visited the scene.

Police from the Odumase Krobo Police Station were also present to secure the area and assist with the transfer of the deceased.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Investigations are underway, and authorities are urging the public to observe fire safety measures.
