President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has lauded Ghana’s role in his country’s fight for independence.

He says Ghana’s historic role in the South African nation’s liberation struggle is something they will never forget.

Speaking at a State Banquet hosted in his honour by President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, President Mnangagwa said the training his forebears had from Ghana was significant during their struggle against colonial rule.

“Most of my colleagues received training here in Ghana for the armed liberation of Zimbabwe. We are forever grateful to Ghana,” he said.

The Zimbabwean leader is currently on a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new avenues for cooperation between the two nations, particularly in trade and investment.

Meanwhile, President Mahama in his remarks, reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening ties with Zimbabwe, highlighting the enduring friendship rooted in shared history and mutual respect.
