A woman identified as Vivian Anto is expected to appear before the Circuit Court in Sefwi Bodi today, Thursday, April 9, 2026, following her arrest for allegedly cutting off the toe of her 9-year-old daughter at Proso in the Juaboso district of the Western North region.
The incident, first reported by Onua News about a week ago, has it that the child had returned home late after going out with friends. This reportedly angered the mother, who allegedly used a pair of scissors to cut off the child’s toe.
Following the incident, Vivian Anto was arrested by police, while the injured child was admitted to the Kofikrom SDA Hospital for treatment.
According to close sources, the suspect admitted to the act during police interrogation, stating that her daughter had been consistently disobedient and often ignored her instructions.
She alleged that the child sometimes leave home without her knowledge and occasionally spent nights at friends’ houses.
The suspect further claimed that her daughter has a habit of taking items that did not belong to her. She said she had made several attempts to correct the child’s behaviour, but saw no improvement.
Narrating the incident, Vivian Anto explained that on Thursday evening last week, her daughter went out and did not return until around 2 p.m. the following day.
She said out of anger, frustration, and pressure, she carried out the act in an attempt to prevent the child from going out again.
Reliable source indicate that, the suspect, who is an apprentice in fashion and design, used a very sharp pair of scissors.
Further information reveals that Vivian Anto is 26 years old, contrary to earlier reports which stated that she was 36.
She was granted bail after 48 hours in police custody due to the holiday period and is scheduled to face prosecution today.
Meanwhile, the child has been discharged from hospital and is currently in stable condition, staying with her grandmother.
Medical personnel were unable to reattach the severed toe because the tissue had deteriorated before treatment. The toe has since been kept by police as evidence in the case.
