Striker Dominic Frimpong has been confirmed dead after sustaining head injuries following an armed robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea team bus Sunday night.

The former Ghana Premier League champions were returning from Samreboi, where they lost 1-0 to FC Samartex in a Matchday 29 clash.

The team bus had been ambushed at Ahyiresu on the Bibiani-Goaso highway with the robbers said to have opened fire on the team bus.

“Masked men wielding guns and assault rifles started shooting at our bus as the driver tried to reverse,” the club stated on its official Facebook page.

“The players and staff fled into nearby bushes to take cover.”

Dominic Frimpong, who joined the Blues from Aduana FC early this year, sustained serious injuries during the incident and was sent to a nearby hospital, with plans to transfer him to a regional hospital.

He was, however, later pronounced dead.

The police have since launched a manhunt for the robbers.
