Staff and residents of the Essikado-Ketan Sub-Metropolitan District Council are heaving a sigh of relief following the renovation and expansion of the offices of the Council.

For years, the Essikado-Ketan Sub-Metropolitan District Council operated in a near-unusable facility that slowed services and endangered the lives of workers.

Cracked walls, poor ventilation, and cramped workspaces made record keeping cumbersome and delayed essential services for residents. The building’s decline also raised safety concerns for staff and visitors.

The refurbished facility has expanded from 11 to 17 offices and now includes a conference room to improve administrative work.

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) commissioned the renovated office on April 17.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, STMA Mayor Frederick F. Faidoo stated that innovation and accountability must guide public service delivery. He urged staff to maintain the building for long-term use.

Priscilla Yenabie, speaking for Essikado-Ketan MP Grace Ayensu, said the need for renovation became clear during the 2023 voter registration exercise when the facility’s poor state exposed staff and the public to difficult conditions.

The project is the sixth of 21 development initiatives STMA plans to deliver to upgrade infrastructure and services across the metropolis.
