The University of Cape Coast is mourning the loss of two of its own following a tragic accident in the early hours of Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
The crash occurred at Third Ridge Junction when a HOWO tipper truck reportedly lost control and toppled onto a saloon car carrying the two academics.
The victims have been identified as Dr. Kwabena Agyemang, a senior lecturer, and his teaching assistant, Peter Amoadu Asmah.
Eyewitnesses stated that “ the driver of the tipper truck attempted to avoid a head-on collision after another vehicle dangerously overtook into its lane. In the process, the truck lost balance, veered off course, and crashed onto the victims’ car, crushing it on impact.”
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, quickly arrived at the scene to rescue those trapped in the wreckage.
In a statement released by the University on Tuesday 28th April,2026, it was stated that “The late Dr. Agyemang was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning at the University of Cape Coast. He was a highly respected member of the University’s academic community, known for his dedication to teaching, research, and service.
His invaluable contributions and presence will be deeply missed by colleagues, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.”
Their deaths have left the University of Cape Coast community in mourning, with tributes pouring in from students and colleagues who describe them as dedicated and impactful educators.
