At Jema, the administrative capital of the Kintampo South district of the Bono East region, a suspected jealous boyfriend has allegedly set a house ablaze, following a misunderstanding between him and his ex-girlfriend’s new partner.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026, although, didn’t record any casualty, left properties destroyed.

According to the ex-girlfriend and her new partner, the suspect, who is currently on the run, had earlier had a confrontation with the new boyfriend, who is identified as Kojo.

The suspect had issued a stern warning to Kojo to stay away from his ex-girlfriend.

Following the threats, the woman at the centre of the controversy, who happens to stay outside Jema, travelled to the town to resolve the matter between the two men.

However, while asleep with Kojo, her new boyfriend on the dawn of Sunday, the suspect allegedly poured petrol around the building and set it ablaze, fleeing the scene in the process.

After detecting the smell of petrol, the victims say they quickly escaped the building before the fire engulfed the entire structure.

They escaped unhurt, but properties in the house were burnt during the incident.

Kojo and his girlfriend have accused the suspect of carrying out the act out of jealousy.

Police are yet to officially comment on the matter, while investigations are expected to begin.
